What are Wall Lights?

A wall light is a type of light fixed to the wall. It uses the wall for support. Wall lights serve two purposes- one, to illuminate the space and second, to add to the decor of the room. Wall lights have become popular in recent years because they can be used anywhere in your house. They can be used as directional light or can emit substantial light to brighten up a bigger space. When used correctly, wall lights provide illumination and safety along with adding sophistication and style to your space.

What do Wall Lights do?

Wall lights are used to brighten up the space but they are usually used as a decorative element in the room. They are used to complement other sources of light in a room. They can be used along with chandeliers, ceiling fixtures etc. They can thus be used in many ways, such as lighting a corridor space, stairway, over a bedside to be used as bedside lamp, or over a piece of art on the wall to showcase the work of art. Are Wall Lights Better Than Regular Bulbs?

Wall light can be considered better than a regular bulb as connecting a regular bulb to a wall socket does not provide a visual appeal. Whereas, wall lights come with wall brackets to hold the bulb/candle or group of bulbs/candles. This type of design gives the wall lights elegance and sophistication. The wall brackets of the wall lights are designed to provide direct and/ or indirect lighting. Thus depending on the design of the wall bracket, a wall light has more utility that a regular bulb.

Can you replace any bulb with Wall Lights?

Wall lights come with mounting hardware to install light. Though one does not need rewiring for installation of wall lights, but a person with electrical experience is required to mount the wall lights. Thus one cannot simply replace a bulb with wall lights as the base/ holder of the bulb has to be changed for a wall light to be mounted.

What Should Be Considered When Choosing Wall Lights?

When choosing wall Lights one should consider the following points:

Type of lighting: choose how you want to brighten your space, do you want direct or indirect lighting, and do you want the light to bean upwards or downwards. One also needs to check if only one wall mounted fixture is needed or a group of wall mounted lightings in needed.

Size and Style: One needs to see if the wall mounted fixture is being used along with other lighting or separately. Depending on this decision one may choose from a variety of types of wall lights available in the market.

Placement: One needs to keep in mind the space that is to be illuminated or decorated and light fixture should be bought keeping this in mind. Because the placement of the fixture will decide the size and shape of the fixture.

Are Wall Lights Costly?

Wall lights come in all ranges in terms of the price. One has a wide variety of wall lights available in the market to choose from. So, depending on the requirement and budget, one can easily find a list of products to choose from.

Do Wall Lights Save Energy?

Wall lights use different types of bulbs. In order to save energy, one can choose the LED bulbs in all wall mounted lights. LED bulbs are inherently designed to save energy. Thus to save energy one should switch to LED bulbs.

What are the Types of Wall Lights?

1. Armed wall lights are the lights that have an adjustable arm that can be moved back and forth and direct light where it is needed.
2. Sconces are classic pieces of wall lighting that are fixed on a wall. You could have matching sconces or even a series of them along the hallway
3. Picture and Artwork Lighting are practical lights that help light up a piece of artwork hanging on the wall.
4. Spotlights, as the name suggests, direct targeted light onto an object or specific location from their place on the wall .
5. Uplights / Downlights are directional lights can direct light upwards or downwards depending on the need.
6. Vanity Lighting- Installing these types of light on the wall help disperse the light where you need it.

What are Wall Lights Colours?

The light emitted from a Wall Light depends on the bulb used. If incandescent bulbs are used they will give out a warm yellowish light. CFLs give a natural white light. On the other hand if LEDs are used then that opens an array of light colours to choose from.
